After a decade or so of set life, production, and art direction for films and movies in Nashville, and raising young men, my partner and captain of our charter company Bill Todd and I opted for what we thought would be a slower island pace, so we moved to Islamorada, FL. We started a sailing and island eco tour company. He is the captain on the boats, and I am the first mate. What does that have to do with wearable art, you say?
Our Story
This is where our story begins.
I’m an artist. Bill is a musician. You would think that would be enough to do, but I started thinking - what's better than wonderful art on your walls? How about art on clothing to wear? Good art, original art, that no one else has or is wearing. Maybe a collection of clothing for resortwear. I have a wonderful selection to choose from: Abstracts, Water Paintings, Flow art, and Intricate Drawings.
Then came the experimenting…this was not as easy as it seems.
Experiments & Challenges of Creating Wearable Art
Printing a flat piece of art image onto a 3D Dress or yoga leggings, a tote bag, or a kimono was met with challenges. How do all the seams look when they meet? How about the back of the garment? How about the image – the resolution, the pixels, the size, the colors? Whew!!!! A lot goes into quality clothing and we were not even to "who will sew and manufacture the clothing" yet.
After much research, trial and error .....yes, I'll admit some errors, I settled on two affordable professional companies here in North America!! Yay! Even better, no overseas shipping.
I'm proud of my work for wearable art, my designs, and the quality of the materials that go into them .
